Spider-Man 5 & 6 are being written now!
Despite only grabbing a commitment from Sam Raimi and his core cast for Spider-Man 4, Sony is pushing ahead with their web-crawling franchise.
Zodiac scribe James Vanderbilt, who wrote the initial draft of the fourth Spidey outing, has been hired to crank out linked scripts for parts five and six.
While Sam Raimi has jettisoned a lot of the writer's ideas for numero four (Gary Ross is currently slaving away over the latest draft), the studio and Marvel apparently approved of what Vanderbilt brought to the world.
Eager to keep the Spider-dollars flowing, Sony wants to push ahead to get the next two films ready to shoot so there's less of a gap between release dates.
And that's while there's still no firm commitment from Raimi or the likes of Tobey Maguire or Kirsten Dunst on whether they'd even come back for more after four.
So according to Variety, Vanderbilt's new scripts - there's no idea what they're about yet - could end up being franchise reboots with a new cast and director in charge...
