Summary:
The story behind the 1972 New Year's Day robbery of the posh Pierre Hotel in Manhattan in which five well-dressed thieves handcuffed 19 employees and guests and walked out with more than $10 million in jewels and cash. The mastermind was Bobby Comfort, an amiable guy who, after brutal stints in prison, turned to high-stakes thievery with former cellmate Sammy Nalo. The two proved to be quite adept at dramatic rip-offs.

Victims included Sophia Loren, who was robbed of about $900,000 worth of goods in her apartment. With the FBI eyeing them, they pulled off the Pierre job, but were ultimately undone by disagreements and some duplicity. The two ended up plea bargaining. Nobody knows if Comfort wound up with his split of the merchandise, but he stayed clean until his death 11 years later.
