Summary: Barbara Lefay (Elisha Cuthbert) is a successful San Francisco consultant who has decided she?s had enough of being called in by her father, Henry (Tim Allen), to clear up the messes left behind by his chronic womanizing. One year after telling him that she never wants to see his face again, it appears that her wish has been granted, when she learns that he has died in a parasailing accident in Cancun. Struck down by grief and remorse, she heads home with her boyfriend, Lloyd (Eric Christian Olsen), to arrange the perfect send off.

She arrives to discover that her father?s latest young bride, Autumn (Lindsay Sloane), has a letter which sets out the precise details of the funeral Henry wanted. The only problem is that each of his ex-wives, including Barbara?s mother Kate (Andie MacDowell) and Henry?s business partner Veronica (Paz Vega) has a letter of her own, and every one is completely different. While Autumn insists that Henry be buried under a great white oak, Ophelia (Jenna Elfman), a small town diva who has already married Henry twice and was hoping for a third shot, is determined to spread his ashes over the Pacific from a catamaran. So determined, in fact, that she forges Autumn?s signature and secretly arranges for the body to be cremated the day before the funeral.

In the build-up to the big day, it emerges not only that Henry had a first wife, Effa (S Epatha Merkerson), whom he had kept hidden from them all, but also that he wasn?t alone in Mexico. Instead, he was cheating on Autumn with his latest fianc饬 Sarah Jane (Jenna Dewan). As the two new women arrive on the scene, Barbara decides that the ashes should be divided up between the wives and that they should each do as they please with their share. Ophelia, however, has other plans. She steals the ashes in their urn and tries to flee in her car as the other wives give chase. The result is an all-out four-wife catfight. In the chaos, the urn is smashed and the ashes are scattered by the wind.

The funeral brings one final surprise: Henry. He reveals that it was another man who died parasailing, and that he was so shaken up that he set off on a three day tequila-fuelled bender and has only just returned from Mexico to discover that the police had misidentified the body. He and Barbara reconcile and he promises to treat her better. Meanwhile, Barbara realizes that there is another relationship that she should be focusing on. She decides to put all her concerns over her father?s philandering behind her, and agrees to marry Lloyd.
