Madonna Nude Photo Goes for $37,500 at Auction
Madonna has never had much use for modesty. And evidence of her early exhibitionist ways went for more than double the expected price at auction Thursday.
Originally expected to fetch $10,000 to $15,000, the framed 1979 nude photograph of the pop singer was sold for $37,500 to an anonymous bidder. It was one of a series of photographs taken by photographer Lee Friedlander when Madonna was a cash-strapped student.
Friedlander reportedly paid her $25 for modeling for him. The pictures later appeared in a 1985 issue of Playboy.
Some people might be taken aback by the raw style of the photo. Madonna appears with hair under her arms and a very natural-looking pose void of the affectation of glamour that marks so many of her photographs.
